I just put a new front main seal in my 706 and when I took off the pulley the tapered rings fell out of the center of the pulley now which way do they go back on? do they go on the crank before the damper? or do they go inside it then on the crank and which direction the tapered end towards the front or the rear?

You are talking german diesel right. This is out of a I&T book.Place one pressure ring on crankshaft with thick end towards engine.Install the wedge rings in pulley bore so that the slots in rings are 90 degrees apart.Slide pulley onto crank and align with timing pin.Install pressure ring, flat pressure washer and three cap screws.Tighten evenly to 55 ft.lbs.
