If you cable sheath/housing is good, an automotive spedometer universal cable replacement works just fine. Just a little comparison at the Store, and you are operational for a few bucks. The tip adapters might need minor modifications. I silver soldered mine to the cable rather than crimp to avoid deforming the roundness where it fit into the housing at the dist end. JimN

Jim.... Autozone and Advanced auto were of no help, not too surprising tho. I told them I need a universal 49" speedocable and they were like, for what vehicle, for what vehicle, god they are stupid. I told them its for a trractor and they said "we dont carry tractor parts" ARGHH!! Maybe if you got a auto shop around there that understands that not everything has to be a direct replacement...

I tried for a while before buying a new one. Even tried to get my bro to find an old cable and splice the cores at his job with a tig welder... but he lives about 40 minutes away with no phone, and I decided the cost of gas to go over there and hound him abiout finding an old cable wasnt worth it. Now If i had the other half of the core from a speedo cable I had so I could make it the right length, so he just had to weld it then he would've gotten it done, but All I got is digital speedos around here =\
So I broke down, spent the $30 and bought one...

I hear you loud and clear. In St. Cloud there are four Parts houses that actually care. One actually houses a YTmagger as an amployee. That is down home friendly. JimN

Obviously you didn"t check the parts houses in Lake Wobegon? I went to the nearest IH dealer and didn"t help me. Went to a local auto parts house and gots me a universal cable. It was for a 240U that I had. Side note. Was in La Crosse, Wisc. looking for a trailer light connection for van. Big store, but worthless in this department and thought by the size , it would carry something I would consider quit common. Sure love this snow!!

Do you need the cable core or the sheath? If you just need the sheath, I still have my old one you can have. Chances are you need the core or the complete cable, since the cores aren't available anymore. Mach sure your tach works before u get a cable. I was gonna use the old sheath to make it look original, but I said screw it and just put it on.

I also relubed it with graphite based lube because the factory lube on the cable wasnt enough IMO...
