Will a Farmall C with a voltage regulator start without having a charged battery? I know most cars won't.. I want to get this C home, only about 3 miles, and wanted to get her running first so I could just drive it.

If it has battery ignition you can use a 12 volt battery. Run a wire wire to the coil with a resister installed between the battery and coil. NAPA part # ICR-13 is an easy one to use. If the electrical is still factory be sure to ground the positive post and run the negetive to the coil. Leave the ignition switch off. Hand crank or run jumper cables to the starter. Just unhook the battery to shut the engine off.

It has to have some charge. You can hand crank start a battery ignition tractor with an almost dead battery. If the starter turns it over very slowly, it often will not start because the drain caused by the battery does not leave enough spark at the plugs to get it running. Hand crank it and the remaining charge goes to the plugs. If it has been sitting a long time the battery is toast. Why don't you just buy a new battery?

That is what I'll have to do. I was just trying to get her home., and I wasn't quite ready to start sticking stuff in it yet.

Only way it will start and run is if it has a mag type ignition system on it. If it has a distubutor on it then you need a good battery or it will not have spark and of course no spark means no run
