I am looking at a 450 D in the local salvage yard and wondering a few things about it .
The hood side pieces are gone , will parts from a 400 G work, also the hyd pump and dist are gone along with misc other parts, it has a fast hitch .
How many parts from a gas 400 will work and how much trouble am I in for if I buy this tractor ?
Worse thing I see is the fuel cap and exhaust are missing , they want $750 for it. Also I didn't see any #'s for the block , so how do I know it's a 450 ? I think you can view pic's here http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v646/Wimpfarm/DSC02096.jpg

To "Wimpfarm:" This is off subject, and I hope is acceptable to forum etiquette, but if the salvage yard would be willing to sell you a small part from that 450 diesel so you could sell it to me at a profit, please email me direct at afwdvm@aol.com.
Thanks very much.
Alan

It has a 400 fast hitch.

The gas exhaust pipe is located on the opposite side from the diesel pipe. The hole in the tin would have to be moved.

The gas distributer and hydraulic pump rotate opposite from diesel.

You should try to determine why the tractor found its way to the salvage yard. What broke?

Hood panels are different muffler comes out opposite side. The hydraulic pumps are different, and the one for the diesel is not available new. These are quite expensive to work on. Bates or IH do have engine parts, but you will not believe the price. I have a complete 450 diesel that runs, and I am considering parting out because of the expense of working on them.

That price is way to high from what you described. The parts that are missing, to buy them will add up quick, As far as what will work any external engine parts manifolds etc....from an MD,WD-6 will work the internals are though. Not quite sure about the sheetmetal though. I think 200.00 would be a more resonable price. Your looking at anywhere from 5 to 10 thousand to do the engine we have close to that in an MD. I do have some spare parts if you need any.

A salvage yard won't sell that tractor for $200. At 6000 lbs, they will get more from a recycler. And it still has alot of good parts.

I thought about that later and you are right. But with what needs to be done to the tractor ity isnt worth it.
