Hi folks,

I just bought a farm all model 200, with what looks like a factory center lift. The belly blade that came with it looks like it"s home built, but a very well built one. I didn"t notice it at the time, but it looks as though the arms are supposed to go up and down independently. Unfortunately the left control is rusted shut, and so the right one is the only one that works. I suspect that the left cylinder is shot also, because it doesn"t seem to have any effect on the other one. The whole thing goes up and down nicely, but I just can"t dig in with one side. Does anybody have any information on this thing? A parts diagram or something? I have a book on case and international, that covers a model 200, which looks like the same thing as I have, only there is nothing about the center lift. So I would like to know what I"m getting into before I have to tear it apart. Any help that you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Tom

Your blade looks to me like the McCormick C-72, not home made. I don't think it is intended to be raised/lowered independently on each side. As designed, it would require twisting the blade frame to do so. With 50 or so years of wear, it will probably allow you to do it to a limited extent. The intent is probably to attach both sides to the same Touch-Control rockshaft so one lever will raise/lower the entire blade while the other lever will move the other rockshaft but have no effect on the blade. If you attach the 2 sides to different Touch-Control rockshafts, you should try to keep both sides close to the same setting.

Jim: I know a guy that told me he quite regularly hooked the 2 sides on the separate hydraulic valves, but one had to keep the 2 very close. He basically gripped the 2 levers as one, for his up and down, then would use one lever or the other for minor adjusting making one side cut a bit deeper. He said one had to be very careful. His opinion was rockshsft arms would break before one damaged the blade.

thanks guys,
when I looked at yesterday, I didn't see that it had three rocker shafts. I didn't look at it real close today either, but I do think it is designed to tilt. The back end of it hooks up to the three-point arms, so it should have all the tilt it needs. a friend of mine had a D16 cat, he never took more than a few inches of cut at any one time. I spent most of the day today working on my Volvo so I didn't really get a chance to look at it very close or take anything apart. But the left side hydraulic valve is definitely stuck. in fact the Blade looks like a homemade, but I wouldn't doubt that it's a factory. It has some really stiff springs on it, to take up the shock, and it looks to be very well designed. I'm going to download the manuals now, and see just what the story is.
Thanks again, Tom

thanks guys,
now that I know that the right side lever controls both cylinders together, and the left side only controls the tilt, that's made my job a lot easier. I think. I had assumed that the right one control the right cylinder, and the left one controlled the other. So both cylinders are probably good, and like R.R. says all get out the Kroil and maybe give it a few technical taps with one of my funny tools that has a wooden handle. And thanks Nat for the link, I'll download that this evening.
Thanks again, Tom

It's called a Touch Control, which will help you in your searching. Someone said it was home made, but that's not true. The Touch Control under the gas tank is factory. The BELLY BLADE is home made, but you already said that...

As stated below, there are two controls and three arms. One control moves a pair of arms, and one control moves an arm on the left side.

It sounds like the belly blade was hooked up to both controls so you could lift and lower each side independently. Neat. Works like a "real" road grader, except that it doesn't work :(

Get yourself a can of PB Blaster or Kroil and start squirting all the pivot points for that left lever. It may be that only the linkage is rusted up and there is nothing wrong with the cylinder.

You can find the IH Touch Control troubleshooting manual online at www.cleancomputes.com/Cub.

The center lift is home made. The hydratouch system has one rockshaft that moves in unison on both sides of the tractor and one that moves on the left side only. Internally the hydratouch system has two cylinders. Are you saying that the left lever does not move or when you move it nothing happens? Check the left linkage to make sure it is moving the lever going into the unit.
