The picture below was an experimental cotton harvester. Harverster Co. tried to make an H "high drum" cotton picker but in the long run the H did not have the hp to run it so they were "low drum" pickers. There are a few down here in Mississippi that were used on Mississippi State Univ. farms. MCH was a high drum cotton picker with 20 spindles per bar.

Send me your email address and I will show you pictures of the different cotton pickers.

Have seen a lot of low drum 14 spindle per bar pickers on Ms, Super Ms and 400s too. I have M I stripped one off of few years ago. Can not say for sure if they were factory installed the one I have was a dealer installed picker 1960 picker on 1940 M.

I'll-be-darned! A cotton harvester?! Never had one before - glad to have one now. A sad story comes with the tractor though. It was set up as an antique puller - no major mods though. One day after a successful pull the gentleman that owned it was loading her on the trailer. The ramps and trailer were at an up-angle. As he was driving up the motor hesitated so he feathered the clutch and gave it more throttle and it did a wheelie and continued to flip all the way over. The gentleman was pinned under the tractor and lost his life on the way to the hospital. I didn't know him but it sent a shock wave of grief with many folks that knew him. The tractor sat for two plus years until yesterday. It had not been run since the roll-over - it started right up. My plans are to restore it to original next summer. I'm going to have the owners name pinstripped somewhere on the tractor "in memory of...".

Thanks so much for the info guys - really appreciate it.
Andy

Some time ago, it was confirmed MCH meant M,(chassis) Cotton Harvester.

Sooo, that means the studio picture below is an HCH? Can anyone say that they have seen the designation "HCH" applied to a cotton picker? Somebody with the right H parts book would know. My M-SMTA book (TC-46) has alot of info on the MCH.

It was experimental only, you will not find any reference to it in parts books. The H did not have the hp to run a "high drum" cotton picker.

I know of one that survived, it is being restored by an Ag Engineer at Mississippi State University. He is having a very hard time finding certain parts.

That I dont know since the M Cotton harvester was what was being discussed at the time, and not to mention I may have my facts just right, but I remember someone more knowledgable than me came foward saying MCH was the designation IH assigned to the M Cotton Harvester.Ill try to find it in the archives.

This is a newer link confirming what was said before, but the one I was looking for is older than this, maybe 2001 or earlier and Guy was the one who posted the info.

Hi Andy, I'm down in Visalia. Nice to see someone close to me around here!

As far as your M, I don't know what the MCH means. The 'X20' means that it was a cotton harvester. When I was looking for a tractor I found an X20 M and was told on this forum that the gears were set up backwards in order for the trator to run a cotton picker attachment. I found this picture of an H with one.

Hope this helps!
