Have looked at hundreds of pictures here on YT Mag and elsewhere, and there is no set color for either my starter or generator, or at least it seems not to be. The percentages are probably 70% black generator to 40% black starter. Is there something definite, or is this a personal preference thing? I have had them both rebuilt recently and have an opportunity to set it right. They appear to have been original and the generator and cutout switch were black and the starter was red. What do you all think? Thanks.

Yeah, pretty well what JimN said. The starter and generator should each have a Delco ID tag. Those were masked too.

Painting at IH/Farmall was basic. Chrome tin pieces were left off, the axels were covered with a tube, the dist cap was off (I assume a cover was put on over the rotor), the steering wheel rim was covered, the amp gauge was taped off, and they were sprayed. Even the fan belts, and wiring were red. Black components are rebuilt, or painted to the fancy of owners. Do it your way, JimN
