Forgot to add running like that could have made it sooo rich it was = to holding choke on and flooding engine. Which will be hard for the starter to crank since the cylinder/s are filled with fluid.

Starter could be bad, but time will surely tell.

Well ya! I mean all internal combustion engines need proper air flow and metering to properly run. When the air cant get in the intake, its gonna be starved for air which is = to running engine way rich.

Two ideas, It may have contributed, and it could be that something you wiggled when doing it was actually the cause.
I think a starter draw test (cheap gauge from auto store) might show a styarter needing bushings. It is ok at 450 amps bad at 600. The starter can be affected by heat, and be OK when cold, and draggy when hot/warmed up. JimN
