Just got a call from the neighbor and came running home, one of the fields caught fire. The firemen got it put out just in time, 2 feet away from all the tractors, 20 feet from the house and 40 feet from the barns and shop. I will never park all the tractors in one place again. Im afraid to go back to work now, still watching that field. The only thing I can think of is the electric fence started it or someone through a butt out.

Yep, just been busy but not anymore, now Im busy plowing circles around all the stuff. Dry and hot is the order around here, just like everywhere except the mid west. No charge for the firemen but Im taking a check up there tomorrow for $1000.00 anyways. Them and a sharp eyed neighbor really saved my life as I know it. God Bless Them All.b

Sounds like God's way of telling you to disc a fire barrier around your living space. Is it hot and dry where you live?

Do you have to pay for the fire response? That could be an ugly bill at the end of the day.

glad you got it before it started the barns on fire. oats and wheat always made me nervous when it was ripe, them fields could go up like gasoline. even the soybean and corn stalks if they are dry enough. we always worked up the headlands right away after combining, either moldboard plow or disk at least 3-4 passes wide to keep the fire hazard down, especially with cig butts getting tossed out the window by cars. maybe you could plow up a little around the barn so if it happens again, it dont get close to the barn.
