Hi all, Does any one know how to properly remove the outer pulley on a IH 3160 belly mower deck? The bolt/screw size is 12/24 for the puller screws. Ok why am I asking? Dumb, Dumb me tried to use a gear puller and broke the pulley, so now I need to replace it - using a pulley puller - should of listened to that voice that said don't do it. I looked for 12/24 cap bolts, grade 8, but I don't seem to be able to find these. I guess reg 12/24 screws will do - just afraid of breaking the screws off. Step to remove whould be great and any other comments would help. Thanks!!

Youve lost me, which pulley is it? If its broke then you need to replace the pulley and if its taper lock, itll come with the bolts.

Thanks John, it was the outer pulley I broke. thanks about the taper lock (key), I wondered if it would come as I pulled the pulley. As you can see, the biggest thing now is that no-one has 12/24 cap screws. I will have to re-tap for 1/4 inch and use a lot of 'PB'.

The screws you need are socket head cap screws. Not regular external hex bolts. All socket head screws are grade 8 or a bit better (if from a good store/supply house like fastenall. They need to be to handle the stress of the hex key in the hole. JimN

Thanks Jim. But They don't seem to have a 12/24 Cap Screw. In fact, it is hard to find anything 12/24. I guess I can re-tap the holes to 1/4-28. Any better ideas?

I would tap them. The size may be available but searching takes time. JimN
