I recently purchased a International 454 diesel at an auction and now trying to fix several problems I have discovered (nothing major to this point).

I am trying to remove the final drive by removing the tire and 11 bolts securing it to rear frame. However I am unable to wrestle it loose from the rear frame.

Is there something I have missed? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I am not familiar with the 454 but I recently replaced a brake seal on my 424 and in order to accomplish that you must drain and remove the hydraulic housing, drain the differential housing and remove the bull gear which is attached to the end of the drive axle by either a bolt or a snap ring. It is not a hard job but messy and time consuming. I think that the two tractors are similar enough that you would have to follow the same procedure as I did.

On the 454 the manual I have only shows removing the wheel and bolts attaching axle to frame. I don"t see any bolts or snap ring at the wheel end of the axle. I have a chassis manual on order which may be a better source than the one I currently have.

Thanks!
