i recently bought a farmall f-12 and while i was looking for parts i came upon an old farmall that looked like a farmall regular or f-30. the thing that through me off was it had a 6 cylinder flat head engine and the exhaust and carb were on the right side of the tractor instead of the left side. does anyone know what kind of tractor this is. im pretty sure the tractor is from the 1930's.

caleb: Regulars and F-20's with six cylinder engines or Ford flathead V-8's or even Chevy V-8 engines are not terribly uncommon. The reason is that those old tractors have a full tubular frame and an open driveshaft and it makes them naturals for engine swaps. They have a bulletproof final drive system which enables them to withstand all that additional power. My neighbor installed a Chevrolet six cylinder truck engine (261 cid) in his F-20 and pulled a three bottom plow with it for years.

Well it could be a McCormick Deering W40. Which resembeled what you described, except they were a sort of standard tread tractor so they did not have the dropped rear axles like the F20, 30 or regular. Or it may be somones own creation using parts of an F-20, F30 or regular and a six cylinder block. This here is a picture of a W40, does it look like this at all?

Ya like Dakota Bob said you'll find alot of the F20s and 30s with bigger engines in them because the transmissions in thse F-series tractor will take alot more than what the factory engines put through them.
