Well, just got home from the state fair. Today was my FFA Ag Mechanics Show. I got a red ribbon in the Modified Restored Tractor class. I had a 1955 Farmall 300. Considered modified because I converted it to 12-volt, added a wide-front, fenders, three-point and wheel weights. Did'nt think I would win but thought I would do a little better. Not sure I quite understand the judging either; the kid next to me couldn't get his tractor to run and he placed higher than me!!! Sure wish I could see the judges coments. Oh well, still a fun day and I am still left with a like-new tractor to use that I am very proud of.

Just posted some pictures in the Tractor Photo Gallery for anyone interested...

Matt, I was glad to read that you had a good day and you are proud of your tractor, those are the things that matter most. Also, some folks, both exhibitors and the general public, don't alway understand Danish/Open/Face-to-Face/One-on-One judging. As a certified Wisc. county fair judge, I always welcome ?'s from exhibitors and anyone in the audience. Any good judge should encourage questions, if time doesn't allow - unfortunate - but some fairs/situations don't, I make it clear several times during my judging, come up to me later and I will make the time to talk with you (the exhibitor). Judging should be a learning experience and believe me, it works both ways! Enjoy you project!

Matt, your tractor looks like new. You have accomplished quite a feat in the restoration project. I teach welding and compete under 4-H in the Ag mechanic's shows. There are a lot of politics and personel opinions that effect judges at these shows. The important thing is for you to realize what you have done and the quality that you put into your project. These things can never be taken away from you by a tractor that won't start. Your pride in workmanship is what is matters.

Keep working hard and you will go where ever you desire.

Matt, I used to show hogs, my son showed Jersey cows a couple of years, you will find there are a lot of politics involved. One judge had the nerve to explain how he place them, by saying about a heifer my son was showing she is the best one in the class but I have to place her last because she is the smallest.

Matt: I looked at your tractor last Thursday, the first day of the fair. The tractor looked great and the three point was really well made.

Matt, you should be proud. That is a fine looking tractor. Maybe you are not in the right click. They seem to exist in all matters of life. Great job. I had a FFA advisor that was one of the smartest men I have ever known. He is also a top notch mechanic. He is now the County Extension agent in my home town and is thought very highly of. Not only by all his ex students, but by most the local farmers and business folks around town. I learned more from him than any other teacher I ever had. Keep up the good work and great job on that one.

Hi George, I missed a few days on here we flew down to Tampa Wednesday to attend a Memorial service for for my late brother-in-law that was cremated. He was a WW2 Navy vet and was a good man. He was originally from Detroit and was a retired VP from Michigan Mutual Ins. Company.

Do to the storms here in MD on Thursday the plane was 4 hours late getting to Tampa that was due to fly back to Baltimore. He sure kicked that plane in the butt when he we left Tampa. We left Tampa at 1 am and were in Baltimore at 3am. Got home around 4:30. Hal

Welcome back, Hal. Sorry to hear about your BIL. According to the news there are lots of flight delays for some reason or another. Danged old coons have nearly wiped my sweet corn out. I guess they don't understand sharing. I like it to.

Be careful around those coons, I just heard on TV that a woman killed a coon with her bare hands that had bitten her two children. They now need to take those rabie shots. My late brother-in-law was married to my wife's older sister. She was a track star in high school. Her son was killed in Nam in 1970. He's buried at Arlington.
We received 2 inches of rain from those storms on Thursday. They said the storms came from Pittsburg and kept coming East. That's the most rain we have received since April. Hal

The tractor looks like a beauty! You should be proud. Especially since it runs. LOL. I am great friend with the Ag teacher at our school, and I know that she would love to have more motivated students like you. Heck, I'd take my 444 to get redone if someone was really interested. I have a lot of my band students involved in FFA here in Delaware.
