Starting to put this transmision back together. Sure wish I was the one who took it apart. My question is....Is there suppose to be a gasket on the rear axle frame assy and the large and heavy transmission cover? Thanks in advance for the info.

The top cover gasket for the Super M is 1981227C1 $38.90. The rear axle carrier gasket 47670DB $11.61. These are the current CNH part numbers and prices. Click on the link below. You can access the online CIH parts books and prices from there.

Scott: Thanks for catching that. I guess the part number on the Case/IH/NH online parts catalog is wrong for the super M. mike

The part numbers are not wrong, CIH uses the latest versions of the parts catalog, which for that tractor are 50+ years old. Many of the part numbers have changed. Although the parts fit, some bear little resemblence to the originals -- seals and gaskets fit in that category. The CIH site does not update them, but the dealers computer does. Apparantly Messicks does, also. I haven't looked at Messicks site lately, I probably should before I get any more parts, to avoid "sticker shock".

I know. I was trying to be kind to MN Scott - hoping he would notice and find out for himself, without me telling him he was wrong. I don't know where he got the number. I looked at Messick's and it was the same number as what I quoted. mike

Mike: You are both right when you search for the 49056DB number it comes up as Case gasket but click on the Case gasket and you get a shopping cart screen that has bright Red block that says nunber supercede by 1981227C1.

Looked at invoice that I think was last time I bought gaskets to fit his tractor. Number I used and is same on invoice was 361368R4. Punched that # in site posted and it came up $41.24. I thought 23.06 was high when I purchased several.

Beats me. It seems we're all coming up with different numbers for a Super M top cover (deck) gasket. mike

I will retract part of my statement then without looking at the Messick's site. Perhaps he ordered the parts from Messicks, and is using the actual part number on the packaging, or bought them locally. The letter C in the number indicates that the number has changed, or no R or D suffix. My CIH parts guy always says it crosses to a different part number, I suppose because he thinks if I get the new part with a different number, I will think it is wrong. But, I would guess that about 1/3 to 1/2 of the parts I buy are that way.

That happens all the time. There is plenty of room for all replies. I am a slow typist and slow thinker sometimes as well. Then sometimes I don't think much at all.

Pete: Cover gasket: #358843R1; Rear axle carrier housing gasket: #47670D.
You can go to caseih.com and look up these parts yourself. When you do, you will see nice diagrams which may be of help in putting things back together. You can print them out. Good luck. mike durhan

Permatex Grey RTV sealer is just as good in these areas and a whole lot cheaper.
