Hey all,

Rainy here in south central WI. Good weather to get my gas guage system working on the 460 U. The question is how do I wire and test my fuel guage and sending unit? I only have the guage with two wires about one inch long attached to it and the sending unit only has a 6 inch wire attached. I have not much of a clue where to start or where to connect the wires. I think I need power from the ignition switch then to what side of the guage?...then the opposite side of the guage to the sending unit? Or am I totally wrong? How can I test either one using a 12v battery and an ammeter?

Thanks in advance!

Butch

I do not know whether the gauge needs a instrument voltage regulator, (the caseih.com parts description will tell. either way make a series circuit from neg to gauge from gauge to sending unit, and sending unit to pos. (assumes pos ground) when connecting the last wire, just tap it on the terminal. The tapping is to allow the possibility that something is horribly wrong. if the gauge seems to not respont to the touching of the wire to the terminal, connect it and then move the float to see if the needle follows the float. Do not expect rapid needle movement, they do not need to be sensitive. good luck, JimN
