Are you jumping it with another 6 volt battery or a 12 volt??? If with another 6 volt your tractor battery may be bad or it might just need a recharge. If you jump a 6 volt starter at 12 volts they usually (unless starter is shot) spin real fast. Id take the battery to an auto parts shop cuz they usually will check n load test it for free then you will have a better handle on if its a battery or starter problem.

Just to make sure I would first remove, clean n wire brush, n reatatch each n every battery n starter n starter switch n ground cable connection cuz if any are bad it can cause poor cranking. Heck you may just need the battery charged and cleaned up cables n connections????

Try the easy simple no cost things first like clean all the cables n connections n charge up the battery and/or have a shop check n load test it. Then if all that fails you may have a starter switch or finally yes a starter problem...

Sounds like you just need a battery. It doesn't matter about the starter being 6 volt, they work just as well with a 12 volt battery as they do with 6 volt.
