I have 1948 Super A with a somewhat non responsive hydraulics system. When you start the tractor cold the hydraulics respond satisfactory however, after the tractor gets warm/hot the touch control hydraulics are very very slow to react to lift or lower. I would like any suggestions where to/ how to locate the problem.
Thanks in advance

I have a 49 Super A Industrial that had a similar problem. I had the Hydraulic fluid control unit rebuilt which did not solve the problem. I finally ended up replacing all of the gaskets in the pump which solved the problem. I obtained the necessary parts from Carter and Gruenwald who did have a kit for the pump. My local Case/IH dealer wasn't much help. Check the internet for Carter& Gruenwald. They have a website but you can call them also.

All IH dealers have a gasket and seal kits, or can get them, but gear sets are not now nor have they ever been available to rebuild these pumps. If his engine oil level is rising it may be loosing oil into it, but if not leaking the gears are likely worn out. Most CaseIH dealers just don't want to help on these old tractors, but they do have parts available. Some of them seem like if you are not buyong a new 50,000 dollar tractor or implement they just don't want to help. Call Brad he will help. He has the seal and gasket kits in stock at all times.

R Baker: I'm afraid George is correct, it's not great news, but there is no other way out.

Your problem is your hydraulic pump is worn out. You might try a heavier oil in the system for a temporary solution. It may not help at all. Those pump gears can not be replaced as replacement sets are not sold. New pumps are available from IH for around 400 dollars. Call this number for a new pump. 1-888-824-0544 ask for Brad and he can fix you up and save you a little money on them.
