I got the tank off. Turned it over and poured out the... well, I don't know if it qualifies as fuel anymore. It was dark brown/black. And the tank was full of chunks of dirt, or rust, or I don't know what. But it's not liquid.
Anyway, I turned it over and got the sediment bowl off. Sure enough it was clogged up with this grey kind of paste. And the hole in the tank was clogged as well. I poked a screwdriver through it... felt like dry mud. I don't think the sediment bowl can be saved. But I want a duel fuel one anyway. I checked the fuel line by blowing through it. Air made it through, so I guess it's ok?

So, I'll definetely be using the NOS tank now after hearing all the junk in the old tank. I suppose someday I can try to clean that old tank up and sell it. But no time soon.
Questions:

1) I didn't see a duel fuel sediement bowl on OEM parts. Anyone know a source?

2) Anything else I should do to the fuel line to ensure it's good?

3) There was no screen on the end of the line. Is this vital to replace?

That's what I'm doing. I'm only digging into the things I know I need to get it running. The previous owner told me it stopped running 8 years ago because the fuel flow stopped. So my concern beyond the tank and strainer is the fuel line and the carb. I have the carb off and am going to be taking it to a friend who has rebuilt his before (on an OS-4) so we can inspect and clean it.
It's odd, the fuel fitting at the carb has double fittings, but no screen in there.

Someone already messed with it. Oh well it can,t be seen. Buy clean fuel, and keep it clean like the cap indicates, and (with sediment bowl and screen there, it won't be an issue. Best of luck on the carb, and I'm glad you intend to run it first. Jim

My goal is to have it running by mid-October so I can use it for my son's Fall Fair at his school for hay rides. So I have to keep focused to attain that goal.

Good motivation.
Keep in mind the tremendous liability involved.
Great brakes, modest speeds (3rd gear max type speeds), a safety clip or cotter pin in the drawbar to trailer/wagon attachment, and day time only operation with serious help organizing kids and traffic.
Experience is the best teacher, and it needs to be robust time in the seat. A combo like an H and trailer acts more like three canoes tied end to end in a current with a wind at a dock with dogs and goats as cargo. Practice. JimN

On point #3 Be sure it is not there by talking the fitting out of the carb.
Get it running before massive disassembly BBEECCAAUUSSEE if it looks torn down, you will start painting and other restoration tasks before getting it running. A running tractor is a known quantity and will be operational and enjoyable. When it is all put together and beautiful, and has a bad clutch or teeth off of the countershaft, tearing it down is way more painful. I know this for certain as a buddy "restored: a JD with a cracked (but painted over) block. JimN
