Rock River Thresheree near Edgerton, Wisconsin. Weather was perfect and I'm glad to see that show going strong.

I went to my friends farm in Limestone Tn. where we hauled 52 head of cattle...Then we went to eat and after we checked on our silage pit, then we watched the chopper cut a couple of rounds...Great day!

I went out to the last day of the Minnesota State Fair. Saw some old Farmall, Molines and even a couple of those Deere Johns. One of the best I saw was an 0-12 a 4-Her restored. Had all kinds of great food, ah ya gotta love the State Fair.

Well, for Labor Day I registered here and this weekend bought a '62 IH 404. I'd been looking for a small tractor for a while and this one came up at the right price so I got it.

I have a small few acres in Central Illinois and I'm tired of asking my farmer friends to help me maintain it. They're great and don't mind at all. But they're busy and I hate to ask.

Plus I love machinery of all kinds so I've wanted get get something of my own for a while.

Went with the wife to an auction. Watched this auctioneer pull a few tricks that reminded me why I didn't want to go (I'd seen him work before). Things like bidding against the bidder using his own bidding number (not illegal here in Mississippi) and pulling an item off the block after deciding it wasn't bringing enough (there oughta be a law).

Went to Town and eat breakfast then went to a Memeral Service for a lady from our church. This afternoon took my Mom and went north of Walnut Grove and found where my Grandson is camping while he builds a garage with living quaters. He is having a well drilled and he and his father in law were clearing a strip so electric can be run to him next week. Matt, Jill, and two boys 7 months and 2 years and 3 months. Right now they are sleeping in a pop up camper using coolers carrying in water. He has the top deck on for the second floor and is ready to put up the studs there. He said he was going to have the rafters and decking done. I am very proud of Matt he is 24 years old and is doing general contracting for a money man building speck houses. I hope the down side of housing doesn"t bite him in the butt. Yes I am 65 years old and have two Great Grand Sons. to day was only the second time I had seen the little one. Then took Mom through the country and got her totally lost she was sure I didn"t know where I was.

Jimmy when you took Dianna and me on that sight-seeing tour of Springfield I am quite sure you were lost, at least I was, so I know how your mom feels. Be safe out there. Tom

Went shopping in the morning and picked up a few things we need for the week. We were home by ten and haven't been out of the house since. Nice, relaxing day with steak, shrimp, corn, and biscuits for lunch. Just been browsing eBay trying to find some decor for the house we are building... third party image

Raked, baled, and hauled to barn and stacked 415 small square bales. Had one good helper from 3 to 6. Before raking, I loaded out 100 on a horse customer
's trailer. Mowed it with the 826; raked with the 574; baled with something green-not quite ripe!

I waited 30 years, but labor day I attended the Mt Pleasant, IA Old Threshers Reunion. WOW! Walked all day in the hot sun, didn't begin to see everything and now my old back doesn't feel so good either. Sympathy not expected, thank you. Leonard

Butch, I love to see those old gals working. Folks around here act like I am in the stone age for running my old Farmalls. I like them a lot better than the newer utility type tractors most of them use. A lot cooler on that flat deck of an M on hot days. What is that? A 240 maybe.

Bob, I have just the cure for that back. We hung tobacco most the day today. Not really good on bad backs though.

hehehehe! I would be glad to help out, but better have a stretcher handy or a 109 lb woman to walk on it. My back cost me an overnight canoe trip I do every year, but I did meet up with those folks on the sand bar for the over night stay. I will say the plie of "aluminum" the next morning was impressive!. I did check the corn field next to the levy and although it was nice and green, there was very few kernals on the cobs (only 4-5 tops)and the cut worms had a "field day". May not be a good corn year around here. From what I saw, may not pay to pick it.

In Vernon County, the phrase was something like...all you need to work in tobacco is a weak mind and a strong back, thus Norwegians fit the bill. I recall that Labor Day weekend always meant tobacco harvest time and so many years it would rain. Hard work, good food and no problem sleeping. Working in if for about two weeks, you were then in shape and if the season would have been longer, you would be able to do it non-stop until you got case weather. Today I spent traveling rural Wisconsin viewing round barns, from the 'World's Largest Round Barn' at the Central Wisc. State Fair in Marshfield to rural Vernon County. Warmer than usual here.

Yep, two things I have always been able to depend on is housing tobacco on and around Labor day and killing hogs on Thankgiving. Usually get to put down tobacco on Christmas. I am considering quitting the tobacco, so maybe my back is playing out and mind is improving. Not likely though. By spring I will be itching to break ground and sow tobacco beds. We hung 2 acres of back breaking heavy stuff today. Only loaded 4 loads for the night. Going to wait one more day for it to wilt a little better.
