The temperature & fuel needles on the guage are not functioning. The oil & alternator lights seem to work fine. Any idea on what to check to find the problem & how to fix? Thanks.

There are several posts about this in the archives if you need more information than I can give you. The fuel gauge is electric, so it is possible that the sending unit in the tank broke or hung up. It is also possible that it is not getting power from the sending unit to the gauge or it has no way of getting back to ground. Lastly, it is also possible that the gauge has simply failed. The oil and alternator lights have their own connectors, wiring, and bulbs, so they will work separately if the gauge is junk. The temperature gauge is a mechanical bourdon tube gauge with ether in a capillary tube. If it doesn't work, the tube has become crimped, has broke, or the gauge is shot. The two gauges are one unit, so if one doesn't work, they will both need to be replaced. Others have replaced them with auxiliary gauges mounted elsewhere, which are considerably cheaper than the original gauge.

i sometimes am tempted to put a round 5" four-function white face stewart warner electrical gauge cluster on a tractor in place of the right side fuel water and warning light one. should be a less aftermarket-looking conversion, but it costs the same or more than the new case ih correct one. on the up side you gain an oil gauge and a volt meter. part number is 366ACY-1.

the temp is a mechanical gauge. if it is not working, you need the whole unit, unless for some reason the sending bulb was removed from the engine and is just hanging loose.
i would recommend a new fuel sender at the same time as the new gauge and test your wiring before installing, as the wrong wiring can fry a gauge in a hurry.
