The original pipe size for a gas manifold on a H is 2", o d ? There are hardly no threads left on the manifold to screw into, if I can get it started, I will weld it. (Arc weld) Thanks again for advise. Bernsy

Bernsy: 35 years ago, I was faced with same problem on my Farmall 300, your having with your H. I had some manifold thread damage, cleaned it up with a tap, installed a new black iron pipe, however I could never get it to stay tight.

Finally I took it to a well respected welding shop. They wouldn't use arc welding, did brazing instead. He claimed there was less chance of cracking manifold with brazing. I'm not a welding expert, however I do give this guy top marks, 300 is still going, manifold is still tight.

I also took him a cracked front cast wheel from 300, cracked right in to bearing race. This was evening and he was still in shop, so drunk he could get off 5 gallon pail. He lectured me on allowing rim to be loose, thus breaking the cast. My dad warned me he would do that, said if he's drunk don't argue, just leave it with him. After his lecture he told me to come back in 24 hours the cast wheel would be fixed. I when back in 24 hours, he was still drunk, and the wheel he fixed is still on the 300. He did acr weld the wheel. Bear in mind also, this 300 has probably 25,000 hours on it by now 15,000 of them since the brazing and arc welding repairs.

Your local plbg shop can make one, tell them what it is for and have them close the dye a little and cut what is refered to as a deep thread. Most times the deep thread will allow the pipe to get deeper in the manifold in good threads after you have cleaned it up.

Not the pipe to muffler joint, the pipe to cast iron manifold joint. Female threads in the cast iron.

2-inch pipe it is, but it is 2-3/8 OD so don't be surprised if you put a tape measure on it.

The ID depends on the wall thickness and is only 2.00 inches for 3/16-inch WT.

I'd bet that the threads are still there. They are just full of rust and carbon. Get a 2 inch pipe tap and re-thread it.

Borrow a 2" pipe tap from your nearest plumber; get an 8" long black iron pipe & you are good for another 50 years or so!

Might want to make that black pipe about 11 to 12 inches long to prevent the muffler clamp from rubbing a hole in the hood.
