Our Farmall A with the rebuilt 123ci engine now has a top speed of 15mph with the stock transmission. Can anyone tell me how many rpm's it's prolly running at right now, and how much faster it could go safely if i open up the governor a bit?

Another comment: This tractor is narrow and I expect that the CG is high. It wouldn't take a lot to tip it over in a fast turn, I'd bet.
There always used to be a warning decal about high-speed turns, and about locking the brakes together when traveling at high speeds. Pls. be careful!

IHC gives 9-5/8 mph (9.625) at 1400 rpm in 4th gear. Fifteen mph is 1.558 times 9.625.
1400 x 1.558 = 2182 rpm.

Can the engine take it? I don't have any idea, but I expect manufacturers were really cautious when these tractors were made. After all, the previous generation tractors topped out between 1000 and 1250 rpm, depending on the model, and they had splash lubrication. I'm excepting F-12/F-14 from the "previous generation"--they had full-pressure lubrication, and it is at least interesting that the F-14 was notched up to 1650 from 1400 full-load rpm, apparently with complete safety; the H is also 1650, so it looks as if the lower speeds are conservative.

I have a super A that will run 22mph (Police radar checked)and that is at 2000rpm with 11.2x24's.The front end is tight so it doesn't shimmy. I don't run it that way for long though. I have it turned down now so it running about 1700rpm but I am not sure of the speed. I did it to stir things up on the Tractor ride I go on and it worked!!

That is about 50% faster than stock, depending on what tires you have on it.

More? I advise against it.

Why do you want to go fast with a Farmall A? How fast do you want to go?
