Everyone is always saying, mine does this at this many rpm"s, or you can run it at this many rpm"s safely. My question is, how the heck do you tell how many rpm"s your engine is spinning in the first place. I wanna adjust the governor on my A, but I have no tach, and most of the older tractor"s didn"t either. How do you tell, or better yet, how can i tell?

tach dwell meter from an auto store will do very well at the task. It has two leads one to ground, and one to the terminal on the side of the distributor. Easy and foolproof. Also works on any voltage system with a coil/points. Shaft driven tachs that can be touched to the end of the PTO also work well. Finally a strobe tach is the handiest. It uses a flashing light and a knob to adjust the speed of the flash. As the flash synchronizes with the engine speed, the front pulley stops (apparently, not really)and the readout is RPM on a LCD, or needle scale. JimN
