ok soo today, i was out disking with my Super C with the fast hitch disk. Apparently the bolts that mount the hitch to the cast lossend up and the one in the front left fell off. this put a strain on the back one and the bottom left bolt blew out of the cast taking about 1- 1 1/2" peice of cast with it. Soo luckly i find the pecie that broke! I was thinking thati would weld the peice back on the tractor. my question is how do i do a good job on welding this kind of cast? i have welded some thiner stuff before but nothing like this?????

Also i was going to put a 3/8" peice of flat stock from those two bolts that hold the hitch on to one of the taped bosses further up the case to beef everything up alittle.

Sorry for the long message!

Thank you for the help

Andrew

PREHEAT PREHEAT PREHEAT

I do this kind of welding from time to time with fairly good results. Heat everything up to your welding temp which should be in the neighborhood of 500 F or more. Weld with proper rod. I use Eutectec 27 for most cast. After you are dont welding. cool it out REAL slow. Wrap parts in a good insulation and keep it as hot as you can as long as you can. The use of an oven is the best idea bit it might have to be a BIG oven.
Take your time, dont get in a hurry and you will do fine

Andrew; I understand that there is rod for arc welding cast-iron...but I haven"t tried it on anything big or heavy. If you acetylene weld it (braze) you will need to heat the broken pieces up before welding...if you are unsure how to do it, take it to a reputable welding shop and let them weld it for you.Properly done, it should last a long time .
Best of luck. Jim B.
