Steering oil question

When I took my front steering arm out to remove my radiator, some oil came out. After the arm was out I put the cap back on to seal it. I'm sure more will drain out when I put the arm back in.
When I pop the top of the bolster, is there a way to tell how much oil to put back in there? It takes just regular motor oil, right?
Second, will have to get a replacement gasket?

if the seal on the bolster is still good, use 90 wt oil in the upper housing. fill it up so it covers the gears. if the gasket is bad, shuffle on down to your local napa auto parts store and pick up a victor reinz jv1 pack of gasket material. it is an assortment of gasket materials, select the closest one to your old gasket and make one with a razor knife. if the upper bolster seal wont hold oil, could be the bolster bushings are worn and it damaged the lower seal. you can either replace the bushings and seal (carter and gruenwald has a rebuild kit for about 145.00) or go over to yer local john deere dealer and get some corn head grease and fill it up.

I think the book said use 90wt gear oil. I have put some tube grease and gear oil mixed in a steering gear on an old truck before. Just plain tube grease will eventually get wiped off the part where the gears mesh most of the time. The gear oil added softens up the tube grease well and lets it flow a bit.
