just wanted to give you a big thanks on the 1486. got the hood off, found the switch tucked behind a hydraulic line. turns out the plug on the switch was corroded. a little emery paper and away she went. heres a couple pics .its 1979, odd no pto from the factory. kinda limits the use on this girl. nowadays they'd put a 1486 on an auger.

No d**n wonder we lost the the war to the "green" ones with our 560 fiasco, and their soundguard cab in the mid 70's , add that to "opptional" pto and they have true powershift in the early to mid 80s. Wow, someone was asleep at the switch in Chitown. Know it is nomore.

I worked at an IH dealership at the time the 1486s were new. I don't remember ever seeing a new one with a PTO. They were all ordered in without and we installed a dual speed before they were delivered.

My 1486 is a 77 model and it came with the 1000 shaft . All depends on what neck of the woods ya were in as to how they were shipped .

i'll have to look in to adding the pto. wasnt sure how big a job that would be. tractor is still a good solid runner, torque amplifier still works good, motor is strong. even the a/c still works!! they bought it at an auction about 12 years ago, they were after a 1086, but that one went for big money, this 14 came up, one other guy bid on it, thier dad was the 2nd bidder, got it for a little over 10k. nobody there wanted it because of the pto delete.

Yep, It's no big deal to add the PTO. Your tractor definetly has the live power shaft installed in the transmission since you've got the hitch and remote hyd. Like the vet said, you just need the extension shaft and splined couplers, the PTO unit, and the linkage. Make sure to get yourself the dual shaft 540/1000 RPM unit. The unit out of a very late 86 series or 3088 series is nice, because it's got the hydraulicly-applied PTO brake. You can shut the engine off and turn the PTO shaft by hand, making it extra easy to connect PTO shafts. The 06 series thru early 86's had spring applied PTO brakes which were engaged any time the PTO was not running. Just make sure to get the correct linkage for whichever unit you get, as the linkage for the late units moves the spool valve down instead of up.

surprised it has a 3pt hitch! those no frills tractors usually had a drawbar like an M or H!!!

make friends with a salvage yard. between this site and the cih parts site, you should be able to figure out what to get. maybe there's a rear end ready to be scrapped with some of the internal shaft parts. then the pto unit itself is pretty easy to find.
