My pressure plate had about .03 wear from a button clutch. I would assume that the flywheel had that much also. I had the flywheel ground for about $25 and trued the P.Plate myself because they could not do it.
A normal clutch disc will be a little larger outside diameter and the inside diameter will be smaller. You could replace a normal clutch disc with a button clutch, but not a button with a standard disc, unless you have flywheel and P.P.trued up.
I had two tractors apart this summer an had one of each style clutch to compare to each other.
If I am wrong, I hope someone will say so.

The 4-pad clutch is also called a button clutch by some people. They have more grip and are able transfer more power without slipping...

The problem I have had with button clutches is that they are grabby when you get into a situation where you need to ease the tractor forward or back - they seem to jump more. Also, slipping a button clutch is harder on the flywheel and pressure plate - in my experience anyway. The full disk clutch doesn"t grab and seems to wear out without taking much material from the flywheel... Again, this is all in my personal experience with clutches, which is somewhat limited...

The easiest way is to mount it on the shaft and turn the shaft with a wire or other indicator up next to the friction surfaces as they come around. This is called axial runout. If the runout is serious (in the 1/8" category) replacement is best. the warped hub will rewarp in use and cause issues later. If minor rebending the hub (not arms) to get it straight is OK, but a call you must make. While there be sure to dress the splines on the input shaft to be sure the friction disk hub slides well on it. Triflow spray leaves a teflon dry film and can be used on the splines. JimN
