Have a 606 that starts great and runs on low RPM up to 12K. Above 12 engins starts to stall unless choke is applied. Eventually this also not enough to keep running. HAve checked fuel line from tank through glass bowl and into carburetor. Looks like adequate flow. Next step?

Hi, I have been having similar problems sometimes with my 2606. I believe I have all the fuel problems taken care of. Sometimes starting up a hill in 2nd or 3rd it won't go without stalling out, and then have to shift down to 1st.

I will check again for a manifold leak. I have some fresh oil around the exhaust manifold which suggests that may be leaking but is no noisy hot air coming out suggesting an exhaust leak.

One way to check for an intake manifold leak is to take a spray can of starting fluid or carb cleaner (carb cleaner may be safer) with a short tube stuck in the nozzle and spot spray all around the manifold and carb gaskets, etc. If there is a leak that is sucking air, you will hear the rpm's pick up when spraying at the leak.

This is a trick I learned regarding leaking vacuum hoses on new cars and trucks. Spraying around leaking, cracked, etc. vacuum hoses will cause in increase in idle. You can then isolate the cause.

Appreciate the feedback. Even the comment on the 12K RPM. Made me smile. Hope we solve the problem by cleaning the carb.

Manifold gasket is sucking air, happens lots around here, hope this helps, Mike

If you can make a 606 go to 12,000 rpm's, why would you want more. Sorry can't help but be a smart a$$.

Having to use the choke is an indication of the engine starving for fuel. Check that fuel flow from the tank to the carburetor to see if there's
good flow there, not just a trickle. If that carburetor has a main jet adjusting screw near the bottom of the carburetor it should be opened. Is there a solenoid in that carburetor? That should open when voltage is applied and may be restricting fuel flow. When was the last time the carburetor was cleaned? It may have dirt or rust blocking the fuel flow. Hal
