Hello,

I just brought home my new 1967 1206!!!! Doesn"t run, needs a little tinkering, but no big deal. But I am new to these tractors and have some questions..and will have some more, so THANKS for all the help in advance!!
First dumb question is, can you pull start them?

Next, it got parked about 3 years ago because of some sort of clutch issue...the clutch is always engaged, and will not disengage when pushed in...any thoughts?

Finally, for today anyway...It had some H2O in the oil pan from sitting...not anti-freeze.. and since it"s a little cool in Ohio now I thought there may be some ice,,,yep! So we dropped the oil pan and knocked off the iceberg and am currently de-icing the oil pump pickup tube.Nothing looks cracked and the ice was not to the mains..Anyhow, I cranked over the motor, cranks fine, did not try to fire it, just cranking it over, and I have a "Hissing" from the oil pan area.....do I have a stuck valve? or other suggestions...

Thanks again....I"ll post a pic once I figure out how to get it on the forum....

Rusty

Thank you all for your help...Got it running today...runs real good!!!, everything seems to work.

Owen, I'll take your advice, I was able to start it in gear and drive it around with no problem, able to test it on hill, so I believe the clutch is good. the t/a works good also! So I'll drop the inspection cover now and see why the clutch does not disengage.

Thanks again

Take the inspection cover off the bottom of the clutch housing. You will be able to see the release bearing and levers. They are probably ground off. If they are OK then the clutch disk has likely broken up with broken pieces wedging between the pressure plate and flywheel.

If the free travel is OK and the clutch will not release, the tractor will need to be split to service the clutch.

Say now,

You seem to be a wealth of information yourself.

Let's see now. How does that work? Clutch pedal up means go and the pedal down means stop?

Is that how that works?

Allan

I agree if it has TA don't pull unit...Even if the unit has no TA I would not recomend pull starting it...How will you stop unit if it starts if the clutch cannot be disengaged. I work on units all the time like this and sometimes you can get in trouble fast. Try cranking it in neutral to start and be safe.

Does it have a TA? If so, you cannot pull start it. The TA needs hydraulic pressure to lock it up. The hissing sound could be normal, just compression leaking past cold rings, but it"s hard to say without actually hearing it. Get your oil pan on and see how much blow-by it has.

Nope, ya can't start by pulling.

However, by manipulating the transmission and the direction of travel, you can manage to turn the engine "backwards" by "fooling" that T/A.

Neat way to bust 'em loose when they are stuck.

We had an 806 when I was younger, baby brother of the 1206 I believe. I am pretty sure the clutch is hydraulic, but I do believe that we used to be able to pull it, but then I am not positive. That was many years ago. Also, don't pull it until you get the clutch do disengage, otherwise you may be in for some fun if it does start while you are pulling it!

"hissing" from the oil pan area COULD possibly mean broken rings, stuck rings, broken piston, or just plain worn out rings.
