OK, so I learned, from day 1, to shut the fuel off when not using it. Some have told me they all leak fuel at some point. Since we have had snow on the ground I have noticed a small amount of what appears the color of contaminated gear oil dripping from the carb. I recently replaced an axle seal, drained and refilled the gear box with new. No, I wasn't anywhere near the carb in doing this. Any ideas? I am stumped...

They all don't leak gas. I never turn gas off to any of mine. Have never had trouble with any of the ones I use regularly leaking. Bob has the right answer about the oil.

Why not remove the drain screw and see what comes out? Do you use Sta-Bil in your fuel? How often do you fill the tank and use that fuel up?

Hadn't thought of that, thanks. No I don't use Sta-Bil. I do try to fill the tank and run it close to empty then clean the sediment bowl. I will try to wait on the drain screw until these 40 MPH winds and snow/freezing rain and sleet lets up. We are getting pounded...

Use Seafoam, it not only stabilies the fuel, but if you run it all the time, it will keep your system free of any moistire that might accumilate, will keep valves from carboning up. What you are describing sounds more like stale fuel dripping from the carb. I use in everything I use, never have fuel related problems. It is one of the few products I have found that actually does what the can says it will do.

If it is coming out the carb and looks like oil, the only thing it could be is oil from the air cleaner may be too thick and got sucked into the air tube. There also could be just half evaporated gas mixed in also.

It does smell like there is a bit of gas in it. Do I pop off the cleaner and blow it out? Haven't done it since I got the tractor. The book indicates it is pretty simple.

If there is gas coming out the carb, then it is either leaking a little or you choked it too much. I shut mine off everytime I use them. Gas is just way too high to risk having the big leak that is bound to happen at some point. It is just good insurance, especially if you keep them in a shed for fire reasons. (like if it leaks overnight and your air compressor kicks on, POOF)If you are going to run it this winter just put thinner oil in the cup. Something like 20wt or 10-30 would be ok, even AT transmission fluid would work fine for winter. If it is going to sit all winter just wait for warm weather and change it in case water or snow blew in the intake or condensation happened.
