we have a 1466 Farmall with TA. No matter how one eases out the clutch, it grabs and jerks the tractor. this is a power assisted clutch, the power assist seems ok.

any ideas how to stop the grabbing clutch?

Is the clutch assist adjusted correctly, adjustment is made on rod in front of assist cyl.Alot of people adjust next to clutch pedal and this goofs up opperation of engagement. Proper free travel is 9/16 between platform and pedal. If this is all correct the problem is internal and a reman clutch is in order. Have flywheel machined to proper height if you do a clutch.

the grabing is most likly due to the dunp valve being out of adjustment. there a small rod on mcv housing that is conected to the clutch rod back to the dump valve this disconects the ta when clutching tractor. it should ingage the ta just before the main engine clutch. if the ta engages before or at sametime you well get the grab or sudden start you are talking about that said over the years i have found that by aplying some brake when letting out clutch help to lessen the grab. one way to see if that is the problem put ta in low and see if the grab is less.

Tractors without a TA don't have a dump valve.

Oh for sure. Hard to tell anymore. :>)

Do know one thing tho. Ya let a hydraulic clutch out on anything bigger than a 766 and ya better be ready, 'cause things are gonna move. :>)
