It looks like there might be some sort of chain drive or gears going up, just behind the batteries, which would access the normal belt pulley location in the top. Would like to see a picture of the gearbox assembly. Previous information I have found, not on the 4x4, stated that the rear end casting of the International B-450 is basicly the same as the W-6 with the addition of a different top that contains hydraulic rockshaft and arms for optional 3 point hitch.

I forgot to mention that if the power
comes from the reverse idler gear or the countershaft, there can only be one
speed for all wheel drive.

There is a box above the battery that might have something to do with transmission, but it looks more like a tool box.

It appears that the gearbox position is low enough
that the power must come from the constant mesh reverse idler gear. I suppose all the B450s must have had the opening in the rear frame for that attachment.

This is in contrast to the Elwood front drive set-up on US made IH tractors (M thru 660). There is no side outlet in the rear frame and the power comes off the top of one of the mainshaft slider gears: probably 4th-5th.

I am no authority on other makes, but I think contemporary Oliver and Minneapolis-Moline both had the side outlet long before US made IH tractors.

Although there is no way to tell from the pictures, that tractor must have had power steering but no TA.

The 4WD used a different rear frame (part #3064 662 R21) to the standard 2WD (part # 708 552 R21) Drive must have been taken from one of the gears on the mainshaft, through an idler gear as they are all splined to it. I think these were factory fit, not conversions, even though it was developed by Roadless Traction Ltd. The transfer case just bolts up to the side of the rear frame.
