I spoke with the previous owner about my leaking seals. I asked him if he ever replaced the Hyd. Fluid and he explained that he just kept adding fluid as it leaked down. I am going to completely drain the tractor and start from scratch.

Which fluid is recommended for a 656 Diesel with gear drive? How much does it usually cost in the 5 gallon buckets?

Thanks,

Joe

TSC sells some hy-tran for about $35-$38 for a 5 gal bucket. Orscheln carries two types. A basic hy-tran (and it may be universal for all I know) for a little over $20 to $22 for 5 gal. They sell better multi viscosity hy-tran for about $28 or so for a 5 gal. bucket. A while back they ran it on sale for around $22 for the better stuff. I bought 4 buckets for about $90 with tax. I think the basic stuff was comparable to the majestic brand from TSC for a lot less money.

I wouldn't be afraid to use anything as long as it states it is comparable to IH hy-tran.

I haven't seen any at a walmart. Guess I will have to ask. I know it doesn't fit on any shelves they have.

Every Wal Mart around here has on a shelf in the oil section. On the bottom shelf. All stores may not carry it.

I'd also check out Tractor Supply, the Majestic hydraulic fluid that is Hytran compatible is supposed to be better than actual IH Hytran.

Napa has a hydro fluid that states it is compatable to IH Hytran and cost about $13/14 per gallon.

What is UTF? Is that a brand or a spec?

Thanks,

Joe

Universal transmission fluid. Several companies make it. As long as it says on the bucket that it is compatable with Hy Tran it will work fine. Bad as I hate to mention it Wal Mart even sells it in 5 gallon pails.

UTF will work just as well for almost half the price of Hy Tran as it is high dollar stuff. Will cost around 100 dollars for the UTF and a filter.

I would use Hy-Tran you can get it in 5 gallon pals or 55 gallon barrels at any Case IH dealer. Could not tell you price on 5 gallon pails because I buy the 55 gallon barrels.
