Hi, I've been looking for a good 240 Utility for quite a while now, and finally found one, however it's not exactly like most I've seen. It is a 1960 model serial number 9810 X J. It is yellow, and appears to always have been yellow. It has what appears to be a factory 3-pt hitch, rather than a 2-pt fast hitch. It also has a foot throttle that operates with your right heal. I thought all 240's of this eara would have had a 2-pt, not a regular 3-pt, and have never seen one with a foot throttle. Was there an industrial version of the 240U? How common are these options.

My intentions were to repaint this the traditional Red/White, but wonder now if I would be making a mistake by doing so. Any help with distinguishing this tractor is greatly appreciated! Thanks again, Rob Bush

There was a 3-point Fast-Hitch. But I think in this case he is describing the 3-point commercial hitch, which was also available and very different.

I wouldn't consider red/white a mistake, unless you are a member of the correct police. While yellow is considered the industrial color, IH would paint any color the customer wanted, and in that era, some of the Highway Depts, etc, would repaint the tractors to suit themselves.

That is called the 3 point fast hitch. It is factory, and was available as an option on 240 and 340 tractors.

Rob, check out the CaseIH online catalog. Also the serial numbers on the left of this site. David.

All you mention was (eventually) available for the 240. It probably started in highway mower or other industrial use.

I also forgot to mention that it has 28" rear tires/rims. I guess I thought all 240U's had 24" rears????
