I was told the wrong information on a tractor I am going to look at. I need to know your opinions and values of a 1466 tractor. Are there any particular areas of concern to look over while doing an inspection?

Thanks,

Joe

Last year I bought a 1466 for just under 10K. Machine was just recently overhauled (less than 500 hours on the work), with a new HD clutch and new radial rear tires. Plus they included the duals and a 12' chisel plow.

Great machine in my opinion. If she has a T/A, check that out too as a slipping T/A in low will be good $$$ if you have IH replace it for you. My T/A is out (well slipping) on the low side but I'll be splitting her myself and hauling the mid tranny section to PA to replace not only the T/A but the pump as well.

Lastly, check out the play in the front end. My 1466 has 1000 lb of weights in the front and she had worn out steering and axle components. Not too pricey to fix....just be prepared to buy tie rods, steering arms, etc that might be loose.

Good luck!

Check to see how many dollar bills are in the rear end.

...and rod/main bearings. If engine has over 5K hours since last overhaul plan on changing the bearings as either $500.00 preventative maintenance or minimum $2500.00 to replace crank if you spin one.
