There was no IPTO option for the SM. It appeared on the SMTA, probably most had it, although some were equipped with the transmission driven pto, a few with none at all.

The designation for IPTO without TA is P. Does he know the difference between an SM and a SMTA?

Should have mentioned that I is one notation for Rockford clutch, although J is usually used. Guy Fay's data book says O was not used. Your friend could be looking at an MTA not equipped with a torque amplifier that does have an independent PTO, except that the suffix appears to be wrong. If so it will have the TA housing with no TA in it.

I don't think they are rare at all.
