What size hydraulic cylinder was IH providing as part of the LiftAll system? As I recall, all the implements were designed to use the same size cylinder so you could move the cylinder from implement to implement.

3" bore x 8" stroke comes to mind. Is that right?

The original Lift-All cylinders were 2 1/4 and 3 diameters with an 8" stroke. Later on, a 1 3/4 cylinder came out. I think the 1 3/4 was common on cultivator rear sections as Steve described. These cylinders had the same basic configuration and were mostly interchangeable except for heavier equipment that required the larger cylinders.

The later 2-way cylinders like Allan pictured were made in 3 1/2 diameter and later in 2 1/2, both with 8" stroke.

The lift-all system used a realatively small one way cylinder with a rigid front snout tube. The internal working ram extended from this "snout" and had no physical "hook-up"; just a push ram. They were single acting (one hose) and were about 1 1/2 x 8".

When they later came out with the double acting systems, a 2 1/2 x 8" cylinder like this one was generally used and it became the standard.

Mkirsch, The best and most popular cyhinder IH made was with the push button depth stop, it was made in both 2 1/2 and 3 1/2 x 8. But I haven't seen a new one for quite a while. Good luck, Chuck

That size sounds about right, but I haven't seen one of those for almost 50 years. In those days hydraulics weren't that sophisticated. On our cultivators we used two (one for each side) on the front cultivator, one for the rear section. We had a 3 disk semi-mount plow, which was heavy in those days, the same two cylinders lifted it just fine.

The front two cylinders were bigger than the one for the rear of the cultivator. Not much but still noticeable.
