Question for B, BN, C, and SC owners

I have what amounts to a "poll" type question for the listed tractor owners. The universal joints on my steering for my B BN and SC are pretty worn. CaseIH doesn't stock the replacement parts for them (caps and crosses). CaseIH has the H and M universals which can be used if you modify your steering rods. Joe's Farmalls and Rice equip stock the H and M ones.....no more of the originals.

I have been able to locate a close match universal, that with very minor machining, will be an exact replacement for the original 52977DAX universal.

If I can get this to work, is there anyone out there that would be interested in one or more of these? Was thinking about having a few made up, and would be happy to tag other people's needs along with mine. The more we have machined, the better the price.

Feedback?

Well, for what it's worth, the NAPA part number is P861. As indicated, it is a bit more heavy duty than the original, but it fits my Super C steering joints. No more slop. Happy man, I am.

Now on to the BN to see how it fits there. My guess is that it will work fine there too.

I double checked with the dealer today, and he aske ME for the NAPA part number. I guess all dealers are not created equal.

Thanks to all who participated, no need for machining, as the P861 fits right out of the box..... ....

Did this to my Super C in the last year. Ordered new bearings and crosses and put them in with no problems. Didn't have to modify anything and took about a hour. Ordered them from parts list for a super c from case-ih web site.

Gab, that is where I found this one. It is a bit bigger, although, only by .015. It may be the right size without modification. If so, I will post the part number for everyone. could be the difference in the measurement was due to the wear on the old one. The cross was .015 longer, and that could pose a problem if not machined down. If the caps aren't square to the machining on the cross, the will wear quickly.

Tomorrow will tell though. I had to order the universal in, and it should be there tomorrow.

I will post my findings. If it fits, I will give everyone the NAPA number.

I did'nt do any machining on mine. It is a little beefier and as I remember you have to work both caps on and press in at the same time. It was'nt as easy as a u-joint in a car. Jim

I took an old one to Nappa and they handed me two new ones off the shelf. Jim

Guys, I'll check again, but I was told (by the CaseIH dealer) the one they are selling for the SC now, is not the same as the original, and requires modification to the steering shaft to install.

However, I will double check again with CaseIH with that part number. I am the first one to raise my hand if I am wrong.

Answering the other question, the universal set I found is $10. I can get the machining done for probably another $15 +/-.

More to come..... ..

Tom your dealer needs to get a new parts man. CIH stocks those U joint kits for the Super C under a new part number. 150635R92 $14.47 Each..

The u-joint on a B,BN if not completely shot can be fixed pretty good by just putting a C-CLAMP on both places of the cross and tighten the clamp then warm up with a torch all four places let air cool and remove the clamps works pretty good depending on how bad they are worn.

My dealer doesn't stock much of anything, but he can get those from the nearest distribution center in a couple of days, unless they were recently discontinued. Did you give him the part numbers and ask him to look in his computer?

Are you talking about the 2 joints on the steering axle?
What would the cost be for these at the time...

Let me know

Kind Regards,

Kristof
