My '52 Super M hasn't been started in a few months. When I started it today, it ran fine for a few seconds, then started pouring black smoke. I think the float may be stuck. How do I go about freeing it up without taking the carb apart? Thanks.

Brett

Shut off fuel supply by disconecting or shut-off valve. Then start up and run at fast idle till it runs out of fuel, then reconnect fuel and flush out any dirt that may be between the needle and seat. CENTAUR

Like Pete says a few raps on the float bowl with a wrench - or a block of wood - will usually free the float.

However if that doesn't do fix it you can drop the bowl to get at the float with the carb on the tractor. Simply remove the (4) cap screws that hold the bowl to the throttle body casting (7/16 wrench as I recall...). Then carefully lower the bowl.

Thanks to all for the help. I will try tapping the side of the bowl.

Take a 15/16 wrench and rap the carb bowl.
