I would like to know what brand this carb is. It is on a super C 51 I believe. I need to decide if I just need to rebuild it or get a new one. It works fine when running. When the tractor is off gas runs out the bottom of it badly.

Thank-you everyone for your input. Guess at this point I will take it off and look at the inside.

This website sells rebuilt ones if you want to go that route.

I wouldn't use any inline filters unless you have a hand full of them on hand with you at the tractor when you are using it to change everytime they fill up with rust. If you have rust problems there are other ways to fix that or you will have constant hassles. At a few bucks a pop, it got expensive for me to change those out all the time. Also the small ones don't handle enough flow.

I can't tell for sure, but it is either a Zenith or a Carter. There should be a name or a number somewhere on it. If it turns out to be a Zenith, go for a rebuild kit. If it turns out to be a Carter, scrap it and buy a new or rebuilt Zenith or Marvel-Schebler. I have a very low opinion on Carters.

A carburetor would have to be in pretty sad shape to scrap it. If none of the main parts are physically broken, it's rebuildable.

Like others have said, it sounds like a problem with the needle and/or float. I have the opposite problem. When I shut the tractor off, the needle gets stuck and won't let fuel into the carburetor.

MKirsch, normally I would agree with you, but those Carters a little different kind of animal. They are made out of very thin pot metal and have a tendency to become warped and then the pieces just won't fit back together like they should.

You should rebuild it yourself, a new carb costs more than rebuilding it yourself. Farmall carbs are usually easy to rebuild. Sorry I don't know the brand.

You got some perfect advise. Right on target. I would probably add a inline fuel filter in the rubber hose, that may stop additional rust from getting into the seat. The cost will be less that three dollars. You may want to check your motor oil, it could have gas in it. That can cause alot of expence if it does.

could have a bad float, either a hole or crack in it. making the float heavy and not closing the needle.or worn out or sticky needle and seat.its one of the two.

hey, just take the bottom off and check the needle and seat, probably got some off that yellow dope stuck in there, lots easier to repair then get another one. maybe float sticking or needs adjusting. I always turn the gas off when done with tractor, unless it auto shut off.
