I use my 52' Super C to drag logs. This year, it's smoking bad & oil is being blown out the exhaust. The tractor still runs excellent & I did a quick compression check & it's still good, very even. How big a job is it to install valve seals & guides? Can I do it in a morning? do i have to pull the head? Thanks

When I had to replace seals or valve springs I had an adapter made to screw in the spark plug hole so I could hook an air hose to cylinder to hold the valves closed. I busted the center out of an old spark plug and welded a fitting onto it.good luck RD

Valve seals are a band-aid for worn valves and guides. None of our old Farmalls burn oil and none of them have valve seals.

Pull the plugs, take off the valve operating mechanism. Rockers and Pushrods. Put a piece of cotton cloths line in the spark plug hole and turn the engine by hand till it is compressed against the valves. Use a spring compressor to remove the retainer and spring. Put on seals, and replace springs etc. Do all four, then reassemble the top end. JimN

Guides will mean pulling the head.

Seals go under the spring so, unless somebody has a REALLY good reliable trick, you'll need to pull the head for them, too.
