Okay,

Bought this tractor a couple of years ago and noticed that it had a master electrical switch mounted at the right sound insulator.

Didn't think a thing about it; ran it all that first year and it never gave me a lick of trouble.

As of late tho, if I don't throw that switch off when I shut the tractor down, it will run the batteries down over night. This must have been an old problem with the prior owner.

I'm thinkin' the only possible place it can be drainin' is either at the alternator or at that cab relay? Am I on the right track ya think?

Possible bleed across the ignition switch and feeding the relay?

Allan

Another question. It looks like you have the front gang at almost zero and the back at slot 4. Is that right? Is that how you pull that?

You're welcome to use mine. In order to keep it in tip top shape I soak it in an alcohol solution. This seems to make it function a lot more efficiently. I have been told that this is due to survival of the fittest. The weaker and less fit brain cells are killed by the alcohol solution and only the fittest and smartest brain cells reproduce to make more smart and fit brain cells. So far it appears to be working. All I ask is that you keep it soaking while not is use.

Allen, I know you like those catchy subject lines but it sure do get lost in the archives. Maybe try something a little more specific???

Brain is available- should be just like new, some say it"s never been used. I"ve heard of tracting leaks by using a low wattage bulb/socket, disconnect one wire at a time, short the pigtails to wire/terminal and ground. Glow should indicate the leaker, no glow, wire it back up. Only need one wire loose at a time.

Yes Sir, I'll use a test light.

The only two possible sources are that alternator battery lead and the relay trigger wire tho, don't ya think?

I "kinda" remember shutting it off two winters ago and the darned heater fan kept running; seems to me like I had to key the switch to kill it.

Makes me wonder about that ignition switch and if it is bleedin' across. Either that or the relay is hangin'?

I'll sure test it, but that alternator looks "relatively" new. :>(
