Put my pulley back on the crankshaft. Tried this method first, using a bottle jack. Those all-threads were flexing all over the place, and I couldn't keep pressure perpendicular...

...so I added two more, cut and re-drilled the channel-iron, and it provided a totally stable base for the bottle-jack...

...and lo and behold...

Thanks to all who have added their input on this subject. Special thanks to Hugh MacKay, who's doubt about my first idea led me to scrap it, and who probably saved me a day and a lot of frustration!

Pete: While I had no problems using just two 5/8" as Keith suggested. I can see where four of the 5/8" all thread will make it much more stable. I can't fault your caution, new cast is much too expensive. I must admit I had some corcerns about the fact that crankshaft is offset about 1/2" from centerline of the two diagnol opposite holes in block. It did work, and I had no problems.

Hugh, when I said "...my first idea...", I wasn"t talking about my first photo, but rather I was referring about using a piece of all-thread, (with rough threads), in the threaded-end of the crankshaft and through the middle of the pulley, and running the pulley in with a washer and nut on that. Glad I took your words to heart. I think the other way would have been a struggle.

P and R Pete, if ya would have used 5/8 althread you wouldn't have had the flexing problem. The one I posted for Hugh, I used 5/8.

I haven't hd any problems yet installing belt pulley on any of the 113 or 123ci Farmall engines yet.

Can't see anything wrong with the what you have used, what ever works. A lot better than beating it on..

Keith: Your right, I had no problems with 5/8" all thread rod. The only reason I used a 1" fine thread bolt in place of the bottle jack, is both my bottle jacks had warning not to use lying horizontal. Since I had ruined a couple of jacks years ago doing just that, I decided to heed the warning.

If I do much more of this, like you I think porta power is the way to go.
