Hi Everyone, we will be touring the Finger Lakes region of NY next week. I seem to remember someone mentioning an antique tractor museum in the area. Any recommendation for a tourist to the region.

TIA
JimB

Welcome Finger Lakes area..... we live in the middle of it all. The museum the others mention is great, as is Letchworth and the Erie canal, There is a small family owned museum just West of Rt 14 along Seneca Lake that we go to frequently. They are nice folks and really into old iron and are just nice folks. It is on Townline Rd in Penn Yan NY. Email us back and we can supply more info. Enjoy your visit, it is beautiful here!!

Jim: Don't know how close you'll be. I do know that from where you live and to get to Finger Lakes, you must cross the Erie Canal. I have not seen this however LA in Wisconcin made me aware of something I consider a must see. East of Rochester the canal crosses vallies on top of large bridges. I guess they figured the bridges were less expensive than locks.

Bob and some of those oyher local guys should know where that is. I always figured when I go to look, I have to drive through Rochester anyhow. What better reason than a local geography lesson, to call on Bob and Glenda.

Iron of a different sort but I recommend The Glenn H. Curtiss (The father of naval aviation) Museum in Hammondsport at the south end of Keuka Lake. Hammondsport is a beautiful village and Keuka is the jewel of the finger lakes. Enjoy

I've been there nice place too. Don't forget the Howe caverns. Pick up some Ommegang beer while in the area.

Thanks for the reminder Cowman - a visit to Letchworth is highly recommended!

(I live nearby and tend to forget about it sometimes...)

Bob: Your photo takes me back to our discussion about the Erie Canal. Nice photo by the way. After our discussion about the Canal, I had more discussion with Lowell Andreesean from WI. He told me about the bridges the canal crosses on top of. Somewhere east of Rochester as I recall.

Jim - here's some additional info:

Tired Iron Museum: 585-382-9736 The local tourism page says it's open weekends May thru October but I'd suggest calling ahead before making the trip.

Punch below for the Vintage Tracks homepage.

----

Incidentally should you happen to be in the Finger Lakes region in early August plan to spend at least one day at the Canandaigua "Pageant of Steam":

Here's a couple:

Vintage Tracks Museum. Not sure of the hours (previous years it's been open on weekends during the summer months). It's geared more toward antique construction equipment but has a bunch of old tractors too. Even when closed it's an interesting stop - a good portion of their construction equipment collection is displayed outdoors on the lawn and parking lot. Its on Wheeler Rd, just south of routes 5 & 20 and few miles east of Canandaigua.

Tired Iron Museum. The owner passed away a couple years ago but I believe it still opens on weekends in the warmer months. It located on US 20A in Cuylerville, 3 or 4 miles southwest of Geneseo.

Both are worth a stop if you are in the area.
