my 1586 will not start on its own, it needs a little shot of ether even after its been working, and even on warm days, if you turn it off, to restart it, you need either.....any suggestions? would sure appreciate any help...thanks

If you don't have a lot of blow-by or burning oil, I'd say it's time for a pump rebuild and/or injectors rebuilt.

Problem becomes instead of spraying a mist into the cylinder to be ignited, they "dribble" fuel in and it doesn't ignite well.

I'd have the injectors bench tested, followed by a compression test, and LASTLY go to a pump rebuild if the other two check out. I always start with the simplest/cheapest thing.

Chris,

Will it idle? If not, these guys are probably right and that pump needs attention.

However, and not to preach doom and gloom, but gotta tell ya, your symptom just screams low compression. Classic "I need an overhaul" trait. :>(

Good batteries/good starter? Spin plenty fast enough?

Dunno, but that's what diesels do.

When they get low on wind, they just don't wanna start. Then again, seem to run just fine once you can get the fire lit.

Good luck with 'er,

Allan

Our 1586 had to have a new injector pump when it did what your talking about. It had about 7500 hours at the time.
