The 504 is kind of a strange tractor in that it is derived from three IH models. The front end and motor are derived from the C, the rear frame and internals come from the H, and the rear axels and tires are the same size as a M. It is rated for approximately the same HP as a M but really can't compare. It shares most of its parts (less engine) with the 606. Has the same sheet metal as a 404 and 606.

I have a Farmall 504 with loader and wide front. It is the first IH with decent hydraulics. By that I mean it can run modern equipment built with small hydraulic cylinders. I have bigger tractors so I do not use it for heavy work. First gear is very slow which suits me fine.

I like my 504 and have never had any problems. Maybe because the previous owner was a state hospital and the tractor was only used to pull laundry wagons.

If you have the C-153 engine gas engine, I'll have to be the bearer of bad news. It's a nice tractor to have for light work, but not a plow tractor. We now use the one on the farm only for loader work (good hydraulics on those) and for planting and other light chores. Hope that's all you have in the future for yours. Good and reliable tractor all in all.

We are looking at a 504 we need it to pull a 7 foot PTO driven finish mower. we mow approx. 60 acres a week and cut the grass very short for a pasture golf course.
