First of all I would like to say this site is very informative and I really enjoy reading all thge previous post. I am a new member and just purchased my first tractor, a 1964 Fordson Super Major.
The three point hitch mechanism on it is not raising or lowering at all so I plan to lift the big cover (underneath the seat) to check everthing out. I would like have the necessary gasket, o-ring and anything else needed on hand once I do this. I see a hydraulic cover rep kit listed in the parts section but I was told it applies to 1965 and newer. btw, the oil in the diff seems a little milky.

Does anyone know what the kit part number I need is. Are there any other gasket/ o-ring or other kits I should also plan on having on hand once the project begins?

thank you for the help in advance

Well, I drained the oil and removed the filter cover today only to find the oil milky in color and the screen filter almost completely clogged. I plan on cleaning the screen and filling up with SAE 30 oil this week. given the 3 point has not been used in approx 20 years (according to the previous owner) should I still go ahead and lift the hydraulic cover?

Is there a way of checking to see if the unload valve is stuck without lifting the cover? if so how do I get to it?

You need to lift the top cover off. Its hard to describe how to take out the unload valve without pictures.....

if the major has been unused for some time, its most likely the unload valve thats stuck.

other than your piston seal and cover gasket best i remember theres just standard o-rings that seal the piston to the cover and a seal for the supply tube.
