Does anyone know what a four wheel drive Fordson Major Diesel is worth. The engine is siezed, but complete, missing the hood, intake control linkage at the intake manifold. It has a few weld-ons from working on wheat farms that can be cut off. The motor was "rebuilt" but will not turn over. I believe water entered the intake, but it could be something related to a cracked sleeve, etc.

I have owned a 1961 FSM for a year so I have a little experience with these tractors.

Thanks, Mark

A 1958 FMD Roadless would be a early model the first one being produced in 1955. The axle is a GMC 2.5 ton 6x6 front axle from army trucks it was modified slightly by shortening it.The Manuel part of it is the patent taken out by an Italian to whom Roadless paid a royalty for all the tractors they produced. They are well worth restoring as a lot were broken for parts, the most difficult parts to find are in the transfer case where the drive goes forward. There are probably less than 100 left now, best of luck with your project

My mistake, it says Manuel Roadless, one driveshaft, small front wheels not 30's. #363 on the front differential. I read through the archives and found some information on FWD Fordsons. This is not a Super though, just a Major with drum brakes. Serial number is for 1958 production runs.

Is it worth restoring? The price is right and I can get two other FMD's for $300 dollars more. The tractor is 100 miles from my farm so I didn't get it right on the first visit. The output yoke at the rear end is snapped off at the pto output location, is that a hard part to find or fabricate?

A company named Roadless traction where a pioneer in adding a driven front axle, they along with county took ford tractors and put them on tracks later in the 50's they developed there own versions of a driven front axle, county went for four equal size wheels while roadless concentrated on the smaller front wheels.roadless i think in the early days fitted the "manuel" axle, this was an italian company. later on producing there own components. Both companies were british.Your tractor is well worth restoring and collectors in u.k. are activly looking for these early models, parts are still available.
