Hello, Just got this Dexta. Changed the filter, bled the system. Wouldn't start. I heated the intake with a torch. Still nothing. I gave it a tiny shot of starting fluid and to started right up. It runs a full speed. Is very slow to react to the throttle and won't Idle. Any Ideas? Thanks, Jim

Have you tried giving the air filter a complete service? Also make sure the govenor vaccum line is air tight. Any leak will affect the idle i think. I'd give the starting fluid a miss if I were you. Its a really good way to extensively shorten the engine life. If the above dont make any difference, My next step would be injection pump timing. Then again it could be the govenor diaphram has a hole in it. Hmmm....lots of maybes. Someone with more experience may be of more help. Good luck

Thanks for the tips. I just noticed that the middle and the aft injector have fuel leaking from them. The aft one is bad. I'll check that tomarrow. Thanks, Jim

jimba, have you checked your lift pump at block.turn off fuel, take line off at lift pump.open your tap to ensure enough fuel is going to pump from tank, make sure there is enough flow from tank..then check to ensure lift pump is pushing enough fuel to filter, try that.sounds like not enough fuel to injector pump..or air lock at injector pump, crack a line on injector pump to ensure no air..my super major develops air locks all the time when i change filters...

You said you heated the intake with a propane torch and gave it ether.

Is the glow plug still removed?

If it is, it will run a high idle until vacuum is restored.

Seal the vacuum, and then look at the inj pump diaphram.

My early dexta surges up and down at idle. The injector pump govenor was the problem.

vacuum diaphram is almost certainly split, when ours went it run very fast at idle & around 8000 RPM with some throttle
