1955 fordson majord turns over but will not start, slow cranking with a 770 battery

this 1955 has been changed to 12 volt but when i try to strat it it turns over slow and heats up the wire involved in the strearting circit help

After turning it over for a while,replace whichever cables are hot. An extra cable from the earth cable bolt/nut on the otherside of the heat shield to somewhere on the engine can also help,if not suspect the starter ,windings ,commutator,brushes.

Danny,
Check your wires for corrosion and make sure your terminals are clean. Also, make sure your cables are large enough for the current draw, 2/0 preferred. I had the same trouble, put new cables on it, and cranked right over.

danny,your tractor is originaly equipped 12 volt,do you have your battery hooked up properly.. should be positive ground,sounds like connections are backwards,or dave has said,a bad starter..

Hi - sounds to me like a bad starter drawing too much juice.
